POLYPHENOLS & FLAVONOIDS
Polyphenols and flavonoids found in tea are plant-derived compounds that antioxidants that have shown to prevent free radicals from damaging DNA. Studies have shown they fight viruses, slow aging, and help dissolve cholesterol.
EPIGALLOCATECHIN GALLATE (ECGC)
One antioxidant found in white, green, oolong, and black teas is 100 times more effective than vitamin C and 25 times more effective than Vitamin E in protecting damage to healthy cells. This antioxidant is known as Epigallocatechin gallate (ECGC). Some Japanese studies found that combining medication and a high intake of EGCG can have positive effects for cancer patients. New research done by Milton Schiffenbauer of Pace University suggest that drinking either green or black tea can help wipe out viruses in your mouth.
GREEN TEA
Green Tea is the best food source for Catechins. Green tea is very rich in Catechin because of its minimal processing. It’s leaves are withered and steamed, not fermented like black and oolong teas. Green tea’s unique Catechins, especially Epigallocatechin Gallate, are more concentrated. A study found that a cup of green tea contains 105 milligrams of Catechin.
Substantial evidence suggest that regular green tea drinking may have lower chances of heart disease and lower development of certain types of cancer.
BLACK TEA
All black tea contains caffeine, but in lower amounts than coffee. A study found that it lowers cholesterol and can prevent heart attacks. Rutgers University reveal that black tea may help prevent some cancers. They are a good source of manganese, so they help in increasing bone density.
WHITE TEA
Is the least processed. Therefore, its antioxidant levels and free radicals power is most concentrated. Tea’s anti-cancerous properties are most potent in white tea as well. It is anti-bacterial and anti-viral.
OOLONG TEA
The specific health benefits are largely the same as other teas, but Asian studies have found that oolong tea has anti-inflammatory power. Oolong tea also shows evidence of protecting bone structure. Ward against obesity and stimulates enzymes that inhibit the growth of fat cells. Reduce bloating if you eat too much fatty food.
CATECHINS
This type of oxidant is found in a graet abundance in the leaves of Camellia sinensis. In smaller amounts, they are found in other such as chocolate, berries, and apples. Their healthy benefits have been under close examinations since the 1990s, due to the strong association of tea with long life and health in many ancient cultures.
